Greg Coffey Continues BSTRO’s AIDS/LifeCycle Ride Tradition

June 27, 2017

Between June 4th and June 10th, BSTRO Senior Account Executive Greg Coffey biked 545 miles as part of the AIDS/LifeCycle ride to support the San Francisco AIDS Foundation and the Los Angeles LGBT Center. He’s the 5th BSTRO employee to do so since 2001—in fact, BSTRO team members have cycled an astonishing 4,400 collective miles (plus tens of thousands of training miles) to raise money and awareness for essential HIV services.

June 3 · San Francisco

Just 12 hours before I ride to Los Angeles! Packing some final bits and bobs, including this fab $5k jersey. Together with friends and family I raised $5,229!

Fun fact

This was Greg’s bag for the duration of the 7-day journey. Fortunately, there was a team that transported all the riders’ bags and tents.

June 4 · Santa Cruz

Day 1 is complete! 80 miles, from San Francisco to Santa Cruz. I’m joined by ~2200 other riders and ~600 volunteer roadies. Together we’ve raised $15.1 million this year for the SF AIDS foundation and LA LGBT center.

June 5 · King City

Day 2 and my first century are done! Biked 109 miles (175km) from Santa Cruz to King City. ? This was officially my longest ride to date!

Did you know?

In cyclist lingo, a “century” is a 100-mile ride.

June 6 · Paso Robles

Day 3 complete! Biked another 67 miles (107km), from King City to Paso Robles. I’m coming for you SoCal! More eventful day, as we rode through a military base, and rested at the San Miguel Mission. It was a hot one though, over 90F (33C)!

June 7 · Santa Maria

Day 4 is over! Biked over 90 miles today, Paso Robles to Santa Maria! We hit the halfway point to LA after a serious mountain climb. But got back to the coast (and cooler weather), and visited Pismo Beach. Just another 205 miles left to go! ? ??

Fun fact

BSTRO designed the jerseys (and other promo materials) for the 2005 and 2006 AIDS/LifeCycle rides!

June 8 · Lompoc

Day 5 is done! Today was Red Dress Day and we biked an “easy” 50 odd miles from Santa Maria to Lompoc. Another 2 days and ~150 miles left to go! Roll on Saturday.

Did you know?

On Red Dress day, AIDS/LifeCycle participants wear their most eye-catching red garb in order to raise further awareness for their cause.

June 9 · Ventura

Day 6 is a wrap! Biked 85 miles (136km) from Lompoc to Ventura, via Santa Barbara. It was a beautiful route, and we had great weather! Tomorrow’s the last day, and only 65 miles to the Fairfax High School and our finish line!

Fun fact

BSTRO founder Jill Tracy did the AIDS/LifeCycle ride 4 years in a row.

June 10 · Los Angeles

I’m done! And feeling proud! Biked every single mile, of the 545 miles, over 7 days. Ate countless bananas and cliff bars. Had zero punctures or bike trouble (miraculously). But most importantly, raised $15.1 million (with 2,200 other riders) for essential HIV services.

Congratulations on your successful ride, Greg!
